About

Welcome to the Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre, University of Ilorin

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre (TEC), University of Ilorin.
TEC occupies a unique position in the University community. Established by the University Senate in 2008, the Centre was conceived with responsibilities extending beyond conventional classroom instruction to encompass entrepreneurship education, practical skills development, business creation, community-based projects, technology development and commercialisation. Today, we stand at an important point in the evolution of that mandate.
We are positioning TEC as a University-wide innovation, entrepreneurship and enterprise-development ecosystem, one that connects knowledge with skills, skills with innovation, innovation with enterprise, and enterprise with markets and measurable impact.

Our ambition is clear: to position TEC as a leading African innovation, entrepreneurship and enterprise development centre that converts knowledge, skills, natural resources and innovative ideas into sustainable businesses, jobs, products and community impact.

From Learning to Value Creation

The world of work is changing rapidly. A university education must therefore prepare graduates not only to seek opportunities, but also to recognise opportunities, solve problems, create value and, where possible, create opportunities for others.
At TEC, we are changing the way we think about entrepreneurship education.
Entrepreneurship should not end when a student completes a course. Technical skills should not end with a certificate. Research should not end with a publication. An idea should not remain an idea.

We are building pathways through which:

KNOWLEDGE → SKILLS → INNOVATION → ENTERPRISE → MARKET → REVENUE → JOBS → COMMUNITY IMPACT.

This is the essence of the TEC.
Our goal is not to make every student the same kind of entrepreneur. Rather, we want every student to leave the University with capabilities that remain valuable beyond graduation, technical competence, entrepreneurial preparedness, problem-solving ability, market awareness, innovation capability, employability and enterprise readiness.
Whether a graduate eventually becomes an employee, professional, researcher, entrepreneur, freelancer, consultant, technology developer, social innovator or employer of labour, TEC should have contributed meaningfully to that journey.

Every Student. Every Skill. Every Opportunity.

We want to make the entrepreneurial journey more practical and more accessible.
A student should be able to move from mindset to skill; from skill to idea; from idea to prototype; from prototype to business model; from business model to venture; from venture to market; and from market to revenue, jobs and impact.
This is why TEC is developing Enterprise Hubs where students can learn, experiment, produce, market and participate in real enterprise activities.
Our emerging hubs span areas including fashion and textiles; leather and product design; creative, graphics and digital enterprise; materials, paint and chemical products; aquaculture and circular bioenterprise; sustainable furniture and product innovation; electronics repair and digital technology; photography, sound and creative media; and smart agriculture.
These are not intended to be skills-training spaces alone. They are designed to become enterprise laboratories where training, production, innovation, student participation, marketing and revenue generation come together.
From Research to Market
TEC also recognises that the University produces enormous intellectual capital.
Our research must have pathways to move beyond the publication of findings to the protection of intellectual property, prototype development, market validation, technology transfer, licensing, commercialisation and the creation of start-ups and spin-offs.
We therefore see TEC as an important component of the University’s broader research-to-market and commercialisation architecture.

Our objective is simple: use knowledge to solve problems and convert useful solutions into value.
The University and the Community
Our vision extends beyond the University campus.
Through the TEC Communiversity concept, we seek to connect community needs, University knowledge, student talent, local resources, industry and markets to create skills, products, enterprises, income and measurable community impact.
We believe that the University should not exist apart from its surrounding communities. It should be a source of solutions, skills, technologies, businesses and livelihoods.

TEC will therefore continue to explore opportunities where local resources and community challenges can become the foundation for practical projects, student enterprises and sustainable businesses.
Our Students Are Our Priority
To every student of the University of Ilorin, I want to say this:
Your degree is not the end of your journey.

Your University experience should equip you with more than academic knowledge. It should give you skills, practical experience, networks, market awareness, innovation experience, problem-solving ability and the confidence to create value.
At TEC, we want you to be prepared to get a job, create a job, build a business, solve a problem and create value.
We encourage you to see every skill as a possible opportunity, every problem as a possible innovation challenge, and every useful idea as a potential pathway to enterprise.
Our Partners

The transformation we envision cannot be achieved by TEC alone.
We welcome industry, government, development partners, alumni, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers, professional bodies and other stakeholders to partner with us through mentorship, technical expertise, industry projects, production partnerships, market access, distribution, technology transfer, investment, training, commercialisation and enterprise incubation.
But we will go beyond partnerships based simply on goodwill.
Every partnership must produce measurable value.
Our Commitment

As we move forward, TEC will be guided by a simple but demanding philosophy:

We train.
We create.
We produce.
We market.
We sell.
We scale.

These are not merely words. They represent a commitment to move from intention to execution and from activity to measurable outcomes.

We will measure our progress not only by the number of people trained, but also by the skills acquired, products developed, ventures created, markets reached, revenue generated, jobs created, research commercialised, partnerships activated and communities impacted.
Our ultimate objective is to build a self-sustaining entrepreneurial ecosystem that serves the University, its students, its staff, its alumni, industry and the wider society.
A New Chapter for TEC

I invite every member of the University community to join us in this new chapter.
Let us move from entrepreneurship as a course to entrepreneurship as a development pathway; from skills training as an endpoint to skills linked to production and markets; from ideas generated to ideas validated and developed; and from students completing courses to students building entrepreneurial portfolios.
Let us build a TEC where a student can walk in with curiosity and walk out with competence; where competence can become an idea; where an idea can become a product; where a product can find a market; and where a successful venture can create opportunities for others.
Most importantly, let us build an institution that will outlive individuals and administrations—an ecosystem that continuously develops people, creates value and contributes to the economic and social development of Nigeria and Africa.

Welcome to the new Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre, University of Ilorin.
Welcome to a Centre where skills become value, ideas become enterprises, and knowledge becomes impact.
Welcome to TEC.

WE TRAIN. WE CREATE. WE PRODUCE. WE MARKET. WE SELL. WE SCALE.
